Collection in Ward 14: There are 581 houses in this ward.
To initiate the process of door-to-door collection, a ward
level meeting was conducted on September 29, 03 and was attended
by 770 people. A public walk was also conducted to spread
the message of cleanliness and around 5020 people participated
due to the awareness created. Donations were received from
the elite ward residents for the purpose. The amount received
as donations were deposited in a bank account in the name
of ward committee. Vehicle for collection and buckets [(2for
each household, one for organic (covered), one for inorganic
(plastic mesh type-open)] bought through such contributions.
For lower income groups (around 135 households), the buckets
were given free of cost, however some people voluntarily pay
Rs.30 - 50 or more for the service provided. The women of
lower income groups were organized to form a 'Women's Self
Help Group' (SHG) for solid waste collection. The collection
takes place at around 3.30 pm every day. They collect the
waste from each house in plastic containers kept in the collection
vehicle. Total expense for solid waste collection is Rs.10000
per month (inclusive of Rs.6000 for salaries of driver and
helper). A Mobile phone will be given to the driver whom,
anybody in the ward can contact in case they have to remove
the construction debris/garden waste. Some land has been identified
(around 5 cents from the 80 cents of land belonging to KM)
in the ward to set up a vermi compost yard. The women's SHG
would be in charge of producing the vermi compost and vermi
wash. The compost thus produced would be used for organic
farming in 5 acre land under private ownership that has beenidentified
in the ward. |
