Evolved a project concept document and action plan for solid Waste
Management by a core group constituted by the Govt. of Kerala
2. February 2003-
Government decision to implement Clean Kerala Project in all Urban
Local Bodies and issued guidelines for organizing the project.
3. March 2003-
Action plan of Clean Kerala Project approved
4. March 2003-
Urban Local Bodies constituted Project Preparation Units (PPU).
5. April 2003-
State level workshop for Project Preparation Units (PPU).
6. July 2003-
Government direction to take action against those dumping solid
wastes, slaughter remains etc in water bodies.
7. July 2003-
Clean Kerala Week Campaign with special focus on mosquito and
rodent control to curb epidemics (July 15-21, 2003).
8. August 2003-
Government direction to Urban Local Bodies regarding mosquito
eradication.
9. September 2003-
Government ban on plastic carry bags with thickness less than
30 micron.
10. October 2003-
Government circulates steps for effective implementation of ban
on carry bags.
11. October 2003-
Government directions to procure micrometer to effect the ban
of plastic carry bags.
12. November 2003-
Government actions to strengthen the implementation of Clean Kerala
Project
13. November 2003-
Government direction to constitute a district level committee
to identify and assist Local Self Government (LSG) Institutions
to procure land for setting up Solid Waste Management System.
14. December 2003-
LSG institutions directed to place and maintain dust bins in all
railway stations and bus stands.
15. December 2003-
LSG Institutions directed to regularly sweep and dispose the wastes
accumulated in the stretches of NH47, NH17, NH49 and Sabarimala
road and entrust the above tasks to Kudumbashree units.
16. January 2004-
Month long Awareness campaign through all the schools in Kerala
launched - All the school students take Clean Kerala Pledge
17. January 2004-
28 different initiatives proposed for implementation as part of
Clean Kerala Campaign
18. January 2004-
A Cabinet Sub Committee was constituted with Hon. Chief Minister
as Chairman and Hon. Minister for Local Self Government as Vice
Chairman for effective implementation of Clean Kerala Project.
An Empowered Committee with the Chief Secretary as Chairman and
Secretary, Local Self Government Department as Convener is also
reconstituted. Clean Kerala Mission was constituted with Executive
Director, Kudumbashree Mission as Chief for implementing the project
on a mission mode.
